Ufone and Telenor are set to launch 5G in Pakistan this May after PTA approval.

Pakistan’s 5G rollout is moving forward as Ufone prepares to enter the market in May. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, PTA, has issued a commencement certificate after the company completed commercial testing of its network.

PTA carried out testing at selected sites under real conditions. After reviewing performance and meeting all requirements, the regulator issued approval for launch.

When contacted, Ufone officials said that the service will be launched in May. The company has successfully passed through all necessary regulatory procedures required to begin commercial operational activity. These grounds came after the 5G spectrum auction, which took place back on March 10, 2026. On March 14, the assignment phase was completed by PTA. A total of 480 megahertz was distributed, with

  • Jazz is securing 190 megahertz
  • Ufone is receiving 180 megahertz
  • Zong obtains 110 megahertz.

Pakistan has 5G services launched first by Jazz and Zong. Testing for both operators was approved successfully. On March 19, 2026, the commercial rollouts were announced.

At launch, Jazz had activated around 180 sites across the country, including Islamabad, provincial capitals and megacities. Zong expanded its network to more than 16 cities during its initial rollout.

With Ufone joining the rollout, the 5G market in Pakistan will expand further. The coming months point to broader coverage and faster mobile connectivity across the country.
