Swedish tech company Ovzon has launched the Ovzon T8. It is described as the smallest mobile satellite terminal in its category. The system is built for defense, civil protection, and commercial communication needs.
Ultra-Compact Design and New Deployment Options
Ovzon T8, however, can be carried in a pocket to keep your data connected on the go. At 7.3 by 5.1 inches and weighing 4.6 pounds, it measures just slightly larger than a standard tablet. This makes it fit in areas that nothing but satellite terminals could hit before.
The device represents a game changer in mobile satellite communication, according to Ovzon CEO Per Norén. It also enables users to explore new deployment options by utilizing smaller hardware. It can be used on unmanned systems, vehicles, aircraft and vessels on land, sea or air.
Performance, Connectivity, and Cost Benefits
The T8 is built for stable communication while in motion. It supports integration across systems where size, weight, and power limits previously created barriers. The design allows use in environments where traditional communication tools fail.
When paired with Ovzon’s Ovzon 3 geostationary satellite, the terminal delivers high-throughput and low-latency connections. It supports reliable communication in remote and contested areas. Commercial operations on the Ovzon 3 satellite started on July 5, 2024.
Norén noted that the combined system strengthens Ovzon’s position in satellite communications. The focus remains on stable and integrated connectivity solutions for critical operations.
The T8 also reduces operational costs. Smaller hardware lowers deployment requirements and simplifies integration. This helps reduce both setup and running expenses for users.
The system supports real-time situational awareness and communication while platforms are moving. It is designed for missions that require constant and reliable data exchange.
Ovzon provides SATCOM-as-a-Service to global customers. The service includes satellite networks, mobile terminals, gateway support, and technical assistance. It is used by defense, national security, and public safety sectors that depend on stable communication.
The company operates from Sweden and the United States, with offices in Stockholm, Herndon, and Tampa. Ovzon is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm Mid Cap.
