Russia has put forward a proposal to partner with Pakistan in strengthening cybersecurity measures for the country’s energy infrastructure. The initiative comes amid growing global concerns over cyber threats targeting critical utilities, particularly as energy systems become more digitized and interconnected.
The proposal includes the development of a joint program aimed at assessing vulnerabilities and enhancing cyber resilience across Pakistan’s power sector. It also suggests forming an inter-agency working group involving government bodies and industry stakeholders from both nations. Additionally, Russia has recommended involving “Cyberus,” a specialized cybersecurity organization, to help implement advanced protection strategies.
This move reflects deepening cooperation between the two countries, especially in the energy sector, where collaboration already spans oil, gas, and renewable technologies. As Pakistan continues to adopt smart grids and digital metering systems, experts believe such cybersecurity partnerships are becoming essential to protect infrastructure from evolving digital threats and ensure long-term energy security.
